Liepos 31 d. – rugpjūčio 2 d. vyko kasmetiniai Vilniaus universiteto Studentų atstovybės (VU SA) padalinių planavimai. Jų metu 12 VU SA padalinių komandų išsigrynino svarbiausias studentams (-ėms) kylančias problemas, suformulavo metinius tikslus ir parengė jų įgyvendinimo planus.

Padalinių planavimai – kasmet vykstančio VU SA veiklos planavimo proceso dalis. Per tris planavimų dienas komandos analizavo savo padalinių studentų (-čių) situaciją, rinkosi problemą, kurią sieks spręsti ateinančiais metais, numatė konkrečius uždavinius, veiksmus ir poveikio rodiklius, padėsiančius įvertinti pasiektą pokytį.

„Planavimų metu svarbu ne tik suformuluoti ambicingą tikslą, bet ir įsitikinti, kad jis kyla iš realios studentų problemos, o suplanuoti veiksmai gali paskatinti pamatuojamą pokytį. Komandos nuosekliai analizavo situaciją, diskutavo ir ieškojo sprendimų, kuriuos galės įgyvendinti per ateinančius metus“, – teigia VU SA planavimo proceso koordinatorė Gabrielė Šlepetytė.

VU SA padalinių išsikelti metiniai tikslai

VU SA Matematikos ir informatikos fakulteto bei VU SA Šiaulių akademijos komandos savo metinius tikslus ir jų įgyvendinimo veiksmus dar planuos vėliau.

Komandoms padeda moderatoriai (-ės)

Viso proceso metu padalinių komandoms padėjo moderatoriai (-ės), vedę (-usios) diskusijas ir padėję (-usios) nuosekliai pereiti nuo problemos analizės prie konkretaus veiksmų plano. Prieš planavimus padalinių pirmininkai (-ės) nurodė savo poreikius moderatoriams (-ėms), o atsižvelgdama į juos, VU SA planavimo proceso koordinatorė Gabrielė Šlepetytė suskirstė moderatorių ir padalinių poras.

„Parenkant moderatorius svarbu įvertinti ne tik jų pačių preferencijas, bet ir konkrečios komandos poreikius, ankstesnę patirtį bei planuojamos spręsti problemos pobūdį. Siekiame sudaryti tokias poras, kurios padėtų komandoms atvirai diskutuoti, išsigryninti esmę ir planavimus užbaigti turint realistišką, aiškų veiksmų planą“, – pasakoja G. Šlepetytė.

Pasak jos, moderatorius nėra žmogus, priimantis sprendimus už komandą – jo užduotis yra padėti komandai pačiai atrasti tinkamiausią kryptį.

„Moderatoriai komandoms užduoda klausimus, padeda pastebėti plano spragas ir skatina susitarti dėl bendro rezultato. Vis dėlto galutinis tikslas ir atsakomybė už jo įgyvendinimą lieka pačiam padaliniui. Dėl to svarbu, kad kiekvienas komandos narys suprastų, kokio pokyčio siekiama ir kaip prie jo prisidės“, – sako planavimo proceso koordinatorė.

Planavimų metu parengti padalinių tikslai ir jų įgyvendinimo planai dar bus teikiami tvirtinti VU SA Parlamentui. Parlamentui juos patvirtinus, tikslai taps VU SA padalinių ateinančių metų veiklos pagrindu. Komandos visus metus stebės pažangą, vertins įgyvendintų veiksmų rezultatus ir sieks, kad planavimų metu išgrynintos idėjos virstų realiais pokyčiais VU studentams (-ėms).

From July 31 to August 2, the annual planning sessions for the Vilnius University Students' Representation (VU SR) units were held. During the sessions, teams from 12 VU SR units identified the most pressing issues students face, formulated their annual goals, and developed action plans to achieve them.

The division planning sessions are part of VU SR's annual strategic planning process. Over the course of three days, the teams analysed the situation of students within their divisions, identified the key issue they aim to address in the coming year, and defined specific objectives, actions, and impact indicators that will help measure the changes achieved.

"During the planning sessions, it is important not only to formulate an ambitious goal but also to ensure that it is based on a real student issue and that the planned actions can lead to measurable change. The teams thoroughly analysed the situation, engaged in discussions, and sought solutions that they will be able to implement over the coming year," says Gabrielė Šlepetytė, VU SA Planning Process Coordinator.

Annual goals set by VU SR units

The VU SA Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and VU SA Šiauliai Academy teams will develop their annual goals and action plans at a later stage.

Moderators support the teams throughout the process

Throughout the planning process, the division teams were supported by moderators, who facilitated discussions and helped the teams move systematically from identifying a problem to developing a concrete action plan. Before the planning sessions, division presidents outlined their expectations for moderators, and based on these needs, VU SA Planning Process Coordinator Gabrielė Šlepetytė matched moderators with the divisions.

"When assigning moderators, it is important to consider not only their own preferences but also the specific needs of each team, their previous experience, and the nature of the issue the division plans to address. Our goal is to create pairings that encourage open discussion, help teams identify the core of the problem, and enable them to complete the planning process with a realistic and well-defined action plan," says G. Šlepetytė.

According to her, the moderator's role is not to make decisions on behalf of the team, but rather to help the team find the most suitable direction on its own.

"Moderators ask questions, help teams identify gaps in their plans, and encourage them to reach a shared understanding of the desired outcome. However, the final goal and responsibility for achieving it always remain with the division itself. That is why it is essential that every team member understands the change they are working towards and how they will contribute to it," the Planning Process Coordinator explains.

The goals and implementation plans prepared during the planning sessions will now be submitted to the VU SA Parliament for approval. Once approved, they will serve as the foundation for each division's activities over the coming year. Throughout the year, the teams will monitor their progress, evaluate the outcomes of the actions they implement, and work to ensure that the ideas developed during the planning process result in meaningful improvements for Vilnius University students.

First Steps at the University

Even before studies begin, future students can look forward to Freshmen Camps. These camps offer an opportunity to meet future coursemates, become acquainted with the faculty community and learn more about student life. More information about Freshmen Camps is available here.

At the camps, freshmen are welcomed by mentors – senior students who help them take their first steps at the University. They introduce students to the study environment, answer their questions and continue supporting them not only during the camp but also after studies begin. Have you been admitted to Vilnius University? Join the Facebook group for Vilnius University freshmen. There, you will find essential information about the start of your studies, upcoming events and the Freshmen Camp. You will also be able to meet your future coursemates and ask any questions you may have.

The first day at university has not even begun, yet there are already plenty of questions. Where can I find my timetable? How do I choose my elective courses? What will the lecturers be like? And perhaps the most important question of all – will I find my people here?

For many first-year students, these questions are answered with the help of mentors. They welcome future students at the train station, encourage them to join activities during the freshers' camp, and, once the academic year begins, help them navigate university systems and answer any questions that arise.

On START FM, Vilnius University Faculty of Philology student Sibilė Pečiulytė, Faculty of Philosophy student Danielius Cibulskas, and Faculty of History student Gabija Milašauskytė shared how their mentors helped them and why that support mattered at the beginning of their studies. Not long ago, they themselves attended freshers' camps without knowing what to expect. This year, they will be returning as mentors.

The First Meeting Begins at the Train Station

A freshers' camp usually starts long before students arrive at the campsite – it begins at the train station. This is where future students meet, for the first time, the people with whom they will soon share lecture halls and student life. Approaching complete strangers can feel intimidating, which is why mentors play such an important role: they are often the first to say hello and invite newcomers to join the conversation.

Sibilė recalls that the mentors' warmth made her feel welcome from the very beginning.

"Even while we were waiting for the train, the mentors were incredibly friendly. They greeted us straight away and invited us into their circle. I was never left standing alone – someone would always come over, help me, or simply start a conversation," she says.

At first, Gabija kept to herself at the station. Groups of students had already started talking while she stood nearby wondering what to do. Eventually, she decided to step out of her comfort zone and introduced herself to two other future students.

"I'm really glad I did because one of them has become one of my closest friends. I think the camp helped us build that connection, and we've stayed close ever since," says Gabija.

Danielius joined the camp with almost no expectations after a former classmate encouraged him to go. Once he arrived at the station, however, he realised he would have to meet new people. Although starting conversations with strangers did not come naturally to him, he decided to introduce himself to another first-year student.

"That conversation turned into a really wonderful friendship. Today we're very close friends," he says.

Every Mentor Is There to Help

Although mentors are assigned to specific study programmes, those boundaries quickly disappear during the camp. Sibilė studies English and Spanish, yet she also formed a close connection with the mentor of the Scandinavian Studies programme.

"All the mentors looked after all the first-year students. If you wanted to, you could approach a mentor from a completely different programme. There was never any division between us," she recalls.

Before attending the camp, Sibilė imagined that a mentor would be something like a university mum or dad – someone who would show her around and explain how everything worked. In reality, the relationship became much closer than she had expected.

"My mentor became a friend. Whenever we met in the faculty courtyard, they would always say hello and ask how I was doing. And that wasn't just during the first few weeks – it continued even six months after my studies had begun," she says.

Before the camp, Gabija had no clear idea of what a mentor's role should be. For her, her mentor became someone she could always turn to with questions, knowing she would receive an answer.

"We had informal conversations and reflection sessions. Our mentor shared advice, told us about the lecturers, and helped us feel more confident about starting university. She was there not only during the camp but also after classes began, whenever questions or challenges came up," says Gabija.

"How Are You Feeling? What's Going Well, and What's Not?"

At first, Danielius was somewhat sceptical about the idea of mentors. In secondary school he had encountered similar roles, but they often felt more symbolic than practical. That is why the care shown by the Faculty of Philosophy mentor came as such a surprise.

"Our mentor genuinely cared about us. Every day, whenever she saw our group in the courtyard, she would come over and ask, 'How are you feeling? What's going well? What's not?' I wasn't used to someone showing that level of care," Danielius recalls.

Rather than waiting for first-year students to ask for help, the mentor took the initiative herself. She cared not only about their studies but also about how they were adjusting to their new environment.

"She became an important person in my transition to university life. She cared about both our well-being and our academic experience – how things were going and whether we were facing any difficulties. She exceeded all my expectations and showed me what a mentor can truly be," he says.

That support does not end when the camp is over. New questions continue to arise in September, when students need to find information, choose elective courses, or learn how to use the university's information systems.

"The camp gave us a real informational advantage. We learned about elective courses, the university information system, the Students' Representation and what it does – things that later turned out to be incredibly useful," says Danielius.

An Opportunity to Get to Know University Before It Begins

Freshers' camps offer much more than the chance to meet mentors and future classmates. They also allow students to experience their future study environment before the academic year even begins.

"Lecturers and representatives of the Student Scientific Society visited our camp. It was great to see what I would be doing, who I would be studying with, and the people I would be meeting over the coming years," Gabija recalls.

Sibilė says that the camp not only met her expectations but exceeded them.

"It was such a unique experience that you immediately want to relive it. That's one of the reasons why I decided to become a mentor myself," she reveals.

Gabija also finds it difficult to imagine what the beginning of her studies would have been like without attending the camp.

"I honestly don't know what my first year would have looked like if I hadn't gone to the freshers' camp. It definitely helped me become part of the community and get to know both my classmates and my lecturers. I had such a wonderful experience that I'm now looking forward to giving this year's first-year students an equally memorable one," she says.

Pirmoji diena universitete dar neprasidėjo, o klausimų jau kyla nemažai. Kur ieškoti tvarkaraščio? Kaip pasirinkti studijų dalykus? Kokie (-ios) bus dėstytojai (-os)? Ir, ko gero, svarbiausia – ar pavyks čia atrasti savo žmones? 

Atsakymus į šiuos klausimus pirmakursiams (-ėms) dažnai padeda rasti kuratoriai (-ės). Jie (-os) būsimus studentus (-es) pasitinka dar traukinių stotyje, stovykloje kviečia įsitraukti į veiklas, o prasidėjus studijoms padeda susigaudyti universiteto sistemose ir atsako į kylančius klausimus. 

Apie kuratorių pagalbą ir jos reikšmę studijų pradžioje START FM eteryje kalbėjo VU Filologijos fakulteto studentė Sibilė Pečiulytė, VU Filosofijos fakulteto studentas Danielius Cibulskas ir VU Istorijos fakulteto studentė Gabija Milašauskytė. Dar visai neseniai jie (-os) patys (-čios) į pirmakursių stovyklas vyko nežinodami (-os), ko tikėtis, o šiemet į jas sugrįš jau kaip kuratoriai (-ės). 

Pirmasis susitikimas – dar traukinių stotyje 

Pirmakursių stovykla dažniausiai prasideda ne sodyboje, o traukinių stotyje. Čia būsimi (-os) studentai (-ės) pirmą kartą pamato žmones, su kuriais netrukus dalysis auditorijomis ir studentiško gyvenimo patirtimis. Prieiti prie nepažįstamųjų gali būti nedrąsu, todėl svarbus (-i) tampa kuratorius (-ė), pirmasis (-oji) pasisveikinantis (-i) ir pakviečiantis (-i) prisijungt prie pokalbių ratelio. 

Sibilė prisimena, kad kuratorių dėmesys padėjo nuo pat pradžių pasijusti laukiamai. 

„Dar stotyje, laukiant traukinio, kuratoriai buvo labai draugiški. Jie iš karto pasisveikino, priėmė į ratelį pasikalbėti. Niekada nebuvo taip, kad likčiau viena – visada kas nors ateidavo, padėdavo ar tiesiog pasišnekėdavo“, – pasakoja ji. 

Gabija stotyje iš pradžių laikėsi nuošalyje. Aplink jau būrėsi ir kalbėjosi žmonės, o ji stovėjo šalia svarstydama, ką daryti. Galiausiai mergina nusprendė perlipti per save ir užkalbino dvi būsimas studentes. 

„Labai gerai, kad tai padariau, nes dabar su viena iš jų esame labai artimos. Man atrodo, stovykla leido mums susibendrauti ir tą ryšį išlaikyti iki dabar“, – sako Gabija. 

Danielius į stovyklą išvyko beveik nieko nesitikėdamas – prisijungti pasiūlė buvusi bendraklasė. Vis dėlto stotyje jis suprato, kad teks megzti naujas pažintis. Nors tuo metu užkalbinti nepažįstamą žmogų jam nebuvo įprasta, Danielius išdrįso pradėti pokalbį su kitu pirmakursiu. 

„Dabar iš to išsirutuliojo labai graži draugystė – esame labai artimi draugai“, – pasakoja jis. 

Pagalbos galima kreiptis į visus (-as) kuratorius (-es) 

Nors kuratoriai (-ės) paskirstomi pagal studijų programas, stovykloje šios ribos greitai išnyksta. Sibilė studijuoja anglų ir ispanų kalbas, tačiau artimą ryšį užmezgė ir su Skandinavistikos studijų programos kuratore. 

„Visi kuratoriai rūpinosi visais pirmakursiais. Jeigu norėjai, galėjai prieiti ir prie kitos programos kuratoriaus. Nebuvo jokio susiskirstymo“, – prisimena ji. 

Prieš stovyklą Sibilė įsivaizdavo, kad kuratorius (-ė) bus tarsi universiteto mama ar tėtis – žmogus, kuris nuves, parodys ir paaiškins, kaip viskas vyksta. Tačiau ilgainiui šis ryšys tapo artimesnis, nei ji tikėjosi. 

„Kuratorius tapo draugu. Susitikus fakulteto kiemelyje visada pasisveikindavo, paklausdavo, kaip sekasi. Ir taip buvo ne tik pirmomis savaitėmis, bet ir praėjus pusei metų nuo studijų pradžios“, – pasakoja studentė. 

Gabija iki stovyklos neturėjo aiškaus įsivaizdavimo, koks turėtų būti kuratoriaus (-ės) vaidmuo. Jai kuratorė pirmiausia tapo žmogumi, kuriam galima užduoti klausimą ir žinoti, kad sulauksi atsakymo. 

„Turėjome neformalių pokalbių ir refleksijų, kuratorė dalydavosi patarimais, papasakodavo apie dėstytojus. Tai padėjo ramiau pasitikti studijų pradžią. Ji buvo šalia ir prasidėjus studijoms, kai kildavo klausimų ar susidurdavome su iššūkiais“, – sako Gabija. 

„Kaip jaučiatės? Kas gerai, kas blogai?“ 

Danielius į kuratoriaus (-ės) vaidmenį iš pradžių žvelgė gana skeptiškai. Gimnazijoje jis buvo susidūręs su panašiomis pareigomis, tačiau jautė, kad jos egzistavo labiau formaliai nei praktiškai, todėl Filosofijos fakulteto kuratorės parodytas dėmesys jį nustebino. 

„Mūsų kuratorė mumis ypač rūpinosi. Kiekvieną dieną, pamačiusi mūsų būrelį kiemelyje, iš karto prieidavo ir klausdavo: „Kaip jaučiatės? Kas gerai, kas blogai?“ Man toks rūpinimasis žmogumi buvo neįprastas“, – prisimena Danielius. 

Kuratorė nelaukė, kol pirmakursiai (-ės) patys (-čios) paprašys pagalbos. Ji domėjosi ne tik studijomis, bet ir tuo, kaip jie (-os) jaučiasi naujoje aplinkoje. 

„Ji tapo svarbiu žmogumi žengiant į universitetinį gyvenimą. Rūpinosi ir mūsų savijauta, ir akademiniais dalykais – kaip sekasi, ar nekyla sunkumų. Mano lūkesčius ji stipriai pranoko ir parodė, koks iš tikrųjų gali būti kuratorius“, – teigia jis. 

Toks palaikymas svarbus ne tik pirmosiomis stovyklos dienomis. Naujų klausimų kyla ir rugsėjį, kai reikia rasti informaciją, pasirinkti individualiuosius studijų dalykus ar pradėti naudotis universiteto informacinėmis sistemomis. 

„Stovykloje gavome savotišką informacinį pranašumą. Ten buvo papasakota apie individualiuosius dalykus, informacinę sistemą, Studentų atstovybę ir jos funkcijas – daugelį dalykų, kurių vėliau tikrai prireikė“, – sako Danielius. 

Galimybė iš anksto pažinti būsimą studijų aplinką 

Pirmakursių stovykla leidžia ne tik susipažinti su kuratoriais (-ėmis) ir būsimais (-omis) bendrakursiais (-ėmis), bet ir dar prieš rugsėjį iš arčiau pažvelgti į būsimą studijų aplinką. 

„Į mūsų stovyklą buvo atvykę dėstytojai ir Studentų mokslinė draugija. Buvo gera pamatyti, ką veiksiu, su kuo bendrausiu ir ką sutiksiu ateinančius metus“, – prisimena Gabija. 

Sibilė sako, kad jos lūkesčiai stovykloje ne tik išsipildė, bet ir buvo pranokti. 

„Tai unikali patirtis, kurią vėliau norisi pakartoti. Iš dalies dėl to ir pati tapau kuratore“, – atskleidžia ji. 

Gabija taip pat sunkiai įsivaizduoja, kaip būtų atrodžiusi jos studijų pradžia be šios patirties. 

„Net nežinau, kas būtų buvę, jeigu nebūčiau patekusi į pirmakursių stovyklą. Ji vienareikšmiškai padėjo integruotis į bendruomenę, susipažinti su bendrakursiais ir dėstytojais. Turėjau labai gerą patirtį savo pirmakursių stovykloje, todėl laukiu, kada galėsiu panašią, o gal net tokią pat gerą patirtį suteikti ateinantiems pirmakursiams“, – sako Gabija.

Liepos 24–26 d. Vilniaus universiteto Studentų atstovybės (VU SA) nariai (-ės) susitiko strateginiuose planavimuose. Tris dienas dalyviai (-ės) diskutavo, kokio pokyčio šiemet reikia Vilniaus universiteto ir VU SA bendruomenėms, bei dėliojo konkrečius žingsnius, padėsiančius jį įgyvendinti. 

Strateginių tikslų kryptys pradėtos formuoti dar birželį vykusiame VU SA Biuro ir Tarybos išvažiavime. Jame, atsižvelgus į organizacijos strategiją ir bendruomenės poreikius, nuspręsta daugiausia dėmesio skirti grįžtamojo ryšio kultūrai, VU SA narių įveiklinimui ir Vilniaus universiteto bendruomenės psichologiniam atsparumui. 

Nuo konteksto pažinimo iki konkrečių veiksmų 

Pirmąją planavimų dieną dalyviai (-ės) susipažino su kiekvieno strateginio tikslo kontekstu: aptarė esamą situaciją, iki šiol atliktus darbus, organizacijoje jau turimus įrankius ir problemas, kurias svarbu spręsti ateinančiais metais. 

Vėliau dalyviai (-ės) pasiskirstė į tris grupes ir pradėjo planavimo sesijas. Jų metu buvo tikslinamos tikslų formuluotės, numatyti uždaviniai, konkretūs veiksmai ir poveikio rodikliai. Parengtas idėjas grupės reguliariai pristatė viena kitai, sulaukė klausimų pagal, kuriuos galėjo tobulinti savo planus. 

„Strateginių planavimų tikslas buvo ne tik susitarti, ko norime pasiekti, bet ir labai konkrečiai atsakyti, kaip tai padarysime. Skirtinguose VU SA padaliniuose veikiančių žmonių patirtys leido į tuos pačius klausimus pažvelgti iš įvairių perspektyvų, o bendros diskusijos padėjo išgryninti veiksmus, kuriuos galėsime nuosekliai įgyvendinti visus metus“, – teigia VU SA planavimo proceso koordinatorė Gabrielė Šlepetytė. 

Siekiama veiksmingo grįžtamojo ryšio kultūros 

Pirmuoju strateginiu tikslu siekiama sukurti veiksmingą ir nuoseklų studijų kokybės grįžtamojo ryšio ciklą Vilniaus universitete. 

Šiuo tikslu norima, kad grįžtamasis ryšys nesibaigtų užpildyta apklausa. Studentai (-ės) turi žinoti, kad jų nuomonė buvo išgirsta, dėstytojai (-os) – gauti pagalbą ją renkant ir pritaikant, o studentų (-čių) atstovai (-ės) – turėti įrankius, leidžiančius pagal surinktą informaciją inicijuoti pokyčius studijų procese. 

Bus stiprinami studentų (-čių) atstovų (-ių) studijų programų komitetuose gebėjimai rinkti ir analizuoti grįžtamąjį ryšį, dėstytojams (-oms) rengiamas tarpinio grįžtamojo ryšio priemonių paketas, o semestro pabaigos apklausų sistema bus peržiūrėta ir atnaujinta. Taip pat bus siekiama, kad dėstytojai (-os) studentams (-ėms) pristatytų, kas jų dėstomuose dalykuose pasikeitė atsižvelgus į ankstesnius atsiliepimus. 

„Norime, kad atvejų, kai studentas užpildo apklausą, tačiau vėliau nežino, kas nutiko su jo atsakymais, sumažėtų. Grįžtamasis ryšys turi tapti kultūriniu aspektu: studentai dalijasi savo patirtimi, ji yra analizuojama, imamasi veiksmų, o bendruomenė pamato, kokį pokytį padėjo sukurti“, – pasakoja G. Šlepetytė. 

Turima patirtis turi būti naudojama 

Antrojo strateginio tikslo kryptis planavimų metu pasikeitė. Iš pradžių buvo planuojama rengti VU SA narių įveiklinimo planą, tačiau, įvertinus dabartinę organizacijos situaciją, nuspręsta pirmiausia dėmesį skirti institucinei atminčiai. 

VU SA jau turi daug metodinės medžiagos, veiklos įrankių ir per ilgus metus sukauptos patirties. Vis dėlto ši informacija ne visada yra lengvai randama, reguliariai atnaujinama ar naudojama kasdienėje veikloje. Todėl bus siekiama puoselėti institucinės atminties kaupimo, saugojimo, perdavimo ir naudojimo kultūrą. 

Numatoma surinkti ir susisteminti turimą medžiagą, įvertinti, kurie įrankiai tebėra aktualūs, atnaujinti svarbiausius iš jų bei sukurti reguliarų jų peržiūros procesą. Kartu bus stiprinami VU SA bendruomenės gebėjimai sukauptą patirtį naudoti planuojant veiklas, priimant sprendimus ir perduodant atsakomybes naujiems (-oms) nariams (-ėms). 

„Narių įveiklinimo idėjos neatsisakoma. Ieškome tvaresnio būdo jos įgyvendinimui, nes įrankių tikrai turime labai daug. Jie nekuria vertės, jei narys nežino, kur juos rasti, kaip jais naudotis ir kam jie apskritai reikalingi. Todėl stipri institucinė atmintis gali tapti pagrindu, padedančiu žmonėms greičiau įsitraukti bei prisiimti atsakomybę“, – mini G. Šlepetytė. 

Stiprinamas bendruomenės psichologinis atsparumas 

Trečiuoju strateginiu tikslu siekiama, kad Vilniaus universiteto bendruomenės nariai (-ės) žinotų, kaip stiprinti savo psichologinį atsparumą, ir gebėtų atsistatyti susidūrę (-usios) su iššūkiais ar krizinėmis situacijomis. 

Šiemet bus siekiama ne tik kalbėti apie psichologinį atsparumą, bet ir suteikti bendruomenei praktinių žinių bei įrankių. Taip pat numatoma užtikrinti, kad sudėtingose situacijose studentus (-es) laiku pasiektų aiški, patikima informacija, o pati VU SA būtų pasirengusi nuosekliai reaguoti į kritines situacijas. 

Nuspręsta stiprinti atsparumo kompetencijas studijų laikotarpiu, peržiūrėti ir plėsti komunikacijos kanalus bei parengti VU SA vidinių kritinių situacijų prevencijos ir valdymo planą. 

„Iššūkių ar krizių metu neužtenka pasakyti žmogui, kad jis turi būti atsparus. Bendruomenė turi žinoti, kur rasti patikimą informaciją, kokių veiksmų imtis ir kur kreiptis pagalbos. Siekiame, kad šios žinios būtų prieinamos dar prieš sudėtingą situaciją, o ne tik tada, kai ji jau įvyksta“, – pabrėžia G. Šlepetytė. 

Planas, kurio vertę parodys pasiektas pokytis 

Strateginiuose planavimuose išgryninti tikslai ir numatyti veiksmai taps VU SA metinio strateginio veiklos plano pagrindu. Jį svarstys ir tvirtins VU SA Parlamentas, o vėliau prasidės svarbiausia dalis – suplanuotų sprendimų įgyvendinimas. 

„Po strateginių planavimų turime aiškesnį bendrą vaizdą, kur norime būti po metų. Tikroji planavimų sėkmė paaiškės ne iš dokumento apimties ar įvykdytų veiklų skaičiaus, o iš to, ar studentai jaus studijų pokyčius, ar VU SA nariai galės lengviau pasinaudoti sukaupta patirtimi ir ar bendruomenė bus geriau pasirengusi susidurti su iššūkiais“, – apibendrina G. Šlepetytė.

From 24 to 26 July, members of the Vilnius University Students’ Representation (VU SR) gathered for their annual strategic planning sessions. Over the course of three days, participants discussed what changes are needed this year for the Vilnius University and VU SR communities and mapped out concrete steps to make those changes happen.

The directions for this year's strategic goals were first outlined during the VU SR Board and Council retreat held in June. Based on the organisation's strategy and the needs of the community, participants agreed to focus on three priorities: strengthening the culture of feedback, empowering VU SR members, and improving the psychological resilience of the Vilnius University community.

From Understanding the Context to Concrete Actions

The first day of the planning sessions was dedicated to understanding the context behind each strategic goal. Participants reviewed the current situation, discussed work already completed, examined the tools and resources already available within the organisation, and identified the challenges that should be addressed over the coming year.

Participants then split into three working groups and began the planning process. During these sessions, they refined the wording of each strategic goal, defined objectives, identified concrete actions, and established indicators for measuring impact. The groups regularly presented their ideas to one another, received feedback and questions, and used this input to further improve their plans.

"The purpose of these strategic planning sessions was not only to agree on what we want to achieve but also to define very clearly how we will achieve it. The different experiences brought by people from various VU SR divisions allowed us to approach the same issues from multiple perspectives, while our shared discussions helped us identify actions that we will be able to implement consistently throughout the year," says Gabriela Šlepetytė, Coordinator of the VU SR Strategic Planning Process.

Building an Effective Feedback Culture

The first strategic goal aims to establish an effective and consistent feedback cycle for study quality at Vilnius University.

The objective is to ensure that feedback does not end with students simply completing a survey. Students should know that their opinions have been heard, lecturers should receive support in collecting and applying feedback, and student representatives should have the tools needed to use the collected information to initiate meaningful improvements in the study process.

To achieve this, VU SR will strengthen the competencies of student representatives serving on Study Programme Committees in collecting and analysing feedback. A toolkit for mid-semester feedback will be developed for lecturers, while the end-of-semester survey system will be reviewed and improved. Efforts will also be made to encourage lecturers to explain to students what changes have been introduced to their courses based on previous feedback.

"We want fewer situations where a student completes a survey but never finds out what happened to their responses. Feedback should become part of our organisational culture: students share their experiences, those experiences are analysed, action is taken, and the community can clearly see the changes their feedback has helped create," explains Šlepetytė.

Making Better Use of Existing Knowledge

The direction of the second strategic goal changed during the planning process. Initially, the focus was on developing a member engagement plan. However, after evaluating the organisation's current situation, participants concluded that strengthening institutional memory should come first.

Over the years, VU SR has accumulated a wide range of methodological resources, practical tools, and organisational experience. However, this knowledge is not always easy to find, regularly updated, or consistently used in everyday activities. The new priority is therefore to foster a culture of collecting, preserving, transferring, and actively using institutional knowledge.

The organisation plans to gather and systematise existing materials, evaluate which resources remain relevant, update the most important ones, and establish a regular review process. At the same time, VU SR members will be encouraged to use accumulated knowledge when planning activities, making decisions, and transferring responsibilities to new members.

"We are not abandoning the idea of member engagement. Instead, we are looking for a more sustainable way to achieve it because we already have a great number of tools available. They create little value if members do not know where to find them, how to use them, or why they matter in the first place. Strong institutional memory can become the foundation that helps people become involved more quickly and confidently take on responsibility," says Šlepetytė.

Strengthening Psychological Resilience

The third strategic goal seeks to ensure that members of the Vilnius University community know how to strengthen their psychological resilience and are better prepared to recover from challenges or crisis situations.

This year, the focus will be not only on raising awareness but also on providing the community with practical knowledge and tools. Another priority is ensuring that students receive clear and reliable information in difficult situations and that VU SR itself is prepared to respond to crises in a consistent and coordinated manner.

Planned actions include strengthening resilience-related competencies throughout students' university experience, reviewing and expanding communication channels, and preparing an internal crisis prevention and management plan for VU SR.

"During challenges or crises, it is not enough to simply tell people to be resilient. The community needs to know where to find reliable information, what steps to take, and where to seek help. Our goal is to make this knowledge available before difficult situations arise, not only once they have already happened," Šlepetytė emphasises.

A Plan Whose Success Will Be Measured by Real Change

The goals and actions refined during the strategic planning sessions will form the basis of VU SR's Annual Strategic Action Plan. The plan will be reviewed and approved by the VU SR Parliament, after which the most important stage will begin: turning the planned solutions into reality.

"After these strategic planning sessions, we have a much clearer picture of where we want to be in a year's time. The real success of this process will not be measured by the length of the document or the number of completed activities, but by whether students experience tangible improvements in their studies, whether VU SR members can make better use of the organisation's accumulated knowledge, and whether our community is better prepared to face future challenges," Šlepetytė concludes.

Liepos 23 d. vykusiame 10-ajame atvirame Vilniaus universiteto Studentų atstovybės (VU SA) Revizijos komisijos posėdyje patvirtinta 2026–2027 m. VU SA veiklos ir finansinio vertinimo metodika. 

Dokumente apibrėžiama, kaip Revizijos komisija atliks metinį organizacijos veiklos ir finansinį vertinimą: kokios sritys bus vertinamos, kokiais duomenimis bus remiamasi, kaip nustatomos rizikos ir formuluojamos rekomendacijos. 

„Patvirtinta metodika padės užtikrinti, kad VU SA veiklos ir finansinis vertinimas būtų nuoseklus, aiškus ir pagrįstas konkrečiais duomenimis. Taip VU SA organai, struktūriniai dariniai ir Centrinis biuras galės iš anksto geriau suprasti vertinimo procesą bei tai, kokios informacijos iš jų gali būti prašoma“, – teigia VU SA Revizijos komisijos pirmininkas Vismantas Daujotas. 

Bus vertinami ne tik veiklos rezultatai 

Vertinant bus atsižvelgiama ne tik į tai, ar numatyta veikla buvo įgyvendinta, bet ir į jos planavimą, pagrindimą duomenimis ar dokumentais bei atsakomybių pasiskirstymą. Taip pat bus vertinama, ar sprendimai buvo priimami laikantis VU SA veiklą reglamentuojančių dokumentų ir ar sudarytos sąlygos veiklos tęstinumui. 

„Vertinimo tikslas nėra vien patikrinti, ar suplanuotos veiklos įvyko. Svarbu suprasti, kaip jos buvo planuojamos, kuo buvo grindžiami priimti sprendimai, kaip pasiskirstytos atsakomybės ir ar sukurtos sąlygos pradėtiems darbams tęsti“, – sako V. Daujotas. 

Metodikoje numatyta vertinti skirtingas VU SA veiklos sritis: strateginius dokumentus ir veiklos planavimą, Parlamento, Tarybos, Prezidento ir Centrinio biuro veiklą, VU SA padalinių, vykdančių atstovavimo funkciją, veiklą, studentų (-čių) iniciatyvas ir Studentų (-čių) iniciatyvų centrą, Institucinio stiprinimo fondą, tarptautiškumą ir tarpkultūriškumą, komunikaciją, partnerystes ir marketingą, finansų valdymą, dokumentų saugojimą, informacinių sistemų naudojimą bei asmens duomenų apsaugą. 

Vertinimas bus grindžiamas skirtingais informacijos šaltiniais 

Atlikdama vertinimą Revizijos komisija analizuos dokumentus, protokolus, sprendimus, finansinius dokumentus, sutartis, ataskaitas ir apklausų rezultatus. 

Taip pat bus remiamasi pokalbių ar grupinių diskusijų metu gauta informacija, rašytiniais paaiškinimais ir kitais duomenimis, reikalingais pagrįstoms išvadoms parengti. 

Skirtingų informacijos šaltinių naudojimas leis išsamiau įvertinti VU SA veiklą ir pateikti ne pavieniais pastebėjimais, o surinktais duomenimis pagrįstas išvadas. 

Dėmesys rizikoms ir rekomendacijų įgyvendinimui 

Atskiras dėmesys metodikoje skiriamas rizikų vertinimui. Nustačius neaiškią praktiką, trūkumą ar pasikartojančią problemą, bus vertinama, kokį poveikį tai gali turėti VU SA veiklai, studentų (-čių) interesų atstovavimui, finansinei atsakomybei, organizacijos reputacijai, asmens duomenų apsaugai ar veiklos tęstinumui. 

Metodikoje taip pat numatyta Revizijos komisijos pateiktų rekomendacijų įgyvendinimo stebėsena. Bus vertinama, ar rekomendacijos buvo apsvarstytos, ar prisiimta atsakomybė už jų įgyvendinimą ir ar imtasi veiksmų nustatytoms rizikoms mažinti. 

„Revizijos komisijai svarbu ne tik įvardyti pastebėtus trūkumus, bet ir įvertinti jų keliamas rizikas bei pateikti rekomendacijas, kurios prisidėtų prie realaus organizacijos veiklos tobulinimo. Todėl metodikoje numatyta stebėti ir tai, kaip į pateiktas rekomendacijas atsižvelgiama“, – pažymi VU SA Revizijos komisijos pirmininkas. 

Patvirtinta metodika bus taikoma rengiant metinę VU SA veiklos ir finansinio vertinimo ataskaitą, teikiamą VU SA ataskaitinei-rinkiminei konferencijai. 

VU SA Revizijos komisija yra VU SA organas, atliekantis organizacijos veiklos ir finansinį vertinimą, teikiantis išvadas bei rekomendacijas dėl veiklos tobulinimo. Komisija vertina, kaip laikomasi VU SA veiklą reglamentuojančių dokumentų, kaip įgyvendinami organizacijos tikslai, naudojami finansiniai ir kiti ištekliai bei užtikrinamas veiklos skaidrumas, atsakomybė ir tęstinumas. 

At the 10th open meeting of the Revision Commission of Vilnius University Students’ Representation (VU SR), held on 23 July, the 2026–2027 VU SR activity and financial evaluation methodology was approved.

The document defines how the Revision Commission will carry out the annual activity and financial evaluation of the organisation: which areas will be evaluated, what data will be used, how risks will be identified and how recommendations will be formulated.

“The approved methodology will help ensure that the activity and financial evaluation of VU SR is consistent, clear and based on specific data. This will allow VU SR bodies, structural entities and the Central Office to better understand the evaluation process in advance, as well as what information may be requested from them,” says Vismantas Daujotas, Chair of the VU SR Revision Commission.

Not only activity results will be evaluated

The evaluation will take into account not only whether the planned activities were implemented, but also their planning, substantiation by data or documents, and the allocation of responsibilities. It will also assess whether decisions were adopted in compliance with the documents regulating the activities of VU SR and whether conditions were created for the continuity of activities.

“The aim of the evaluation is not merely to check whether the planned activities took place. It is important to understand how they were planned, what the decisions adopted were based on, how responsibilities were allocated and whether conditions were created for continuing the work that had been started,” says V. Daujotas.

The methodology provides for the evaluation of different areas of VU SR activity: strategic documents and activity planning; the activities of the Parliament, the Board, the President and the Central Office; the activities of VU SR units performing the representation function; student initiatives and the Student Initiatives Centre; the Institutional Strengthening Fund; internationalisation and interculturality; communication; partnerships and marketing; financial management; document storage; the use of information systems; and personal data protection.

The evaluation will be based on different sources of information

In carrying out the evaluation, the Revision Commission will analyse documents, minutes, decisions, financial documents, agreements, reports and survey results.

It will also rely on information obtained during interviews or group discussions, written explanations and other data necessary to prepare substantiated conclusions.

The use of different sources of information will allow for a more comprehensive evaluation of VU SR activities and for conclusions to be based not on isolated observations, but on collected data.

Focus on risks and the implementation of recommendations

The methodology devotes separate attention to risk assessment. Where an unclear practice, deficiency or recurring problem is identified, the potential impact on VU SR activities, the representation of students’ interests, financial responsibility, the organisation’s reputation, personal data protection or continuity of activities will be assessed.

The methodology also provides for monitoring the implementation of recommendations submitted by the Revision Commission. It will be assessed whether the recommendations were considered, whether responsibility was assumed for their implementation and whether action was taken to reduce the identified risks.

“For the Revision Commission, it is important not only to identify the deficiencies observed, but also to assess the risks they pose and to provide recommendations that contribute to real improvement in the organisation’s activities. Therefore, the methodology also provides for monitoring how the recommendations submitted are taken into account,” notes the Chair of the VU SR Revision Commission.

The approved methodology will be applied in preparing the annual VU SR activity and financial evaluation report, which is submitted to the VU SR Reporting-Electoral Convention.

The VU SR Revision Commission is a VU SR body that carries out the organisation’s activity and financial evaluation and provides conclusions and recommendations on improving activities. The Commission assesses compliance with the documents regulating the activities of VU SR, the implementation of the organisation’s objectives, the use of financial and other resources, and the ensuring of transparency, responsibility and continuity of activities.

Studijų pradžia universitete gali kelti ne tik džiaugsmą, bet ir nemažai nerimo. Ar pavyks susirasti draugų (-ių)? Su kuo rugsėjo pirmąją eiti į fakultetą? Į ką kreiptis, kai viskas dar nauja ir nepažįstama? 

Vilniaus universiteto Studentų atstovybės (VU SA) pirmakursių stovyklos padeda atsakymus į šiuos klausimus rasti dar neprasidėjus studijoms. Apie savo patirtis START FM eteryje pasakojo Komunikacijos (VU KF), Medicinos (VU MF), Fizikos (VU FF) bei Chemijos ir geomokslų (VU CHGF) fakultetų studentai (-ės).

Rugsėjį sugrįžti pas jau pažįstamus žmones 

Medicinos fakultete Akušeriją studijuojanti Urtė Mažylytė į stovyklą vyko turėdama vieną pagrindinį tikslą – susipažinti su žmonėmis.

„Tikėjausi, kad susirasiu pažįstamų, jog rugsėjį būtų drąsiau. Buvo labai gera fakultete pamatyti pažįstamus veidus, turėti šalia ko atsisėsti ir jausti, kad čia esu ne viena – mes kartu pradedame šią kelionę“, – pasakoja U. Mažylytė. 

Inovatyvią komunikaciją ir antreprenerystę Komunikacijos fakultete studijuojantis Jokūbas Randis prisiminė, kad pirmą kartą atėjęs į fakultetą jautėsi nejaukiai ir net svarstė, ar apskritai pavyks susirasti draugų (-ių). Tačiau nusprendė pats žengti pirmąjį žingsnį. 

„Pagalvojau, kad tai – kartą gyvenime pasitaikanti akimirka, todėl tiesiog ėjau ir bendravau. Vos atvykus buvo daug energijos: bendravo kuratoriai, pirmakursiai, o paskui visą kelią traukiniu iki stovyklos kalbėjomės“, – sako J. Randis. 

Nerimo prieš naujas pažintis jautė ir Kartografiją bei geografines informacijos sistemas Chemijos ir geomokslų fakultete studijuojantis Hubertas Škudžinskas. 

„Užaugau kaime ir ilgą laiką turėjau tuos pačius draugus, todėl buvo įdomu pirmą kartą susipažinti su naujais žmonėmis, su kuriais reikės praleisti daug laiko. Iš pradžių buvo šiek tiek nerimo, bet greitai susidraugavome ir pradėjome kurti bendruomenę“, – prisimena jis. 

Kuratoriai (-ės) tampa pirmaisiais (-osiomis) pažįstamais (-omis) universitete 

Dar prieš stovyklą pirmakursius (-es) pasiekia kuratorių – vyresnių kursų studentų (-čių) – žinutės ar skambučiai. Nors pirmasis kontaktas kartais gali nustebinti, būtent kuratoriai (-ės) neretai tampa pirmaisiais žmonėmis, kurie padeda universitete pasijusti laukiamam (-ai). 

Jokūbas pasakojo, kad iš pradžių nežinojo, kaip reaguoti į kuratorės žinutę. 

„Galvojau: kas čia man rašo ir kodėl? Truputį nejauku, kai parašo vyresnis žmogus, atrodo, kad turi labai pagarbiai elgtis. Bet mano kuratorė nuo pirmos minutės bendravo taip, kad to nejaukumo neliktų – parodė, jog abu esame studentai ir nėra dėl ko jaudintis“, – sako jis. 

Šis ryšys nesibaigė kartu su stovykla. Šiandien Jokūbas pats tapo kuratoriumi, o jo buvusi kuratorė yra VU SA KF integracijos proceso koordinatorė. 

„Mes iki šiol labai gerai bendraujame. Manau, kad būtent dėl to, kaip šiltai ji bendravo nuo pat pirmos minutės, tą ryšį turime ir dabar“, – teigia J. Randis. 

Urtė pirmiausia sulaukė ne žinutės, o kuratorės skambučio. Nors tai iš pradžių pasirodė dar baisiau, pokalbis išties nuramino.

„Iš karto jautėsi tokia energija, kad galėsiu jai rašyti ne tik tą pirmą kartą, bet ir tada, kai kils bet koks klausimas. Kuratoriai visai neseniai praėjo lygiai tą patį kelią, todėl turi daug patarimų ir istorijų. Labai gera žinoti, kad jie irgi visa tai patyrė“, – pasakoja U. Mažylytė. 

Šviesos technologijas Fizikos fakultete studijuojanti Eglė Kulionytė taip pat nesitikėjo, kad būsimais (-omis) studentais (-ėmis) bus pradėta rūpintis dar iki stovyklos. 

„Nesitikėjau, kad taip šiltai pasitiks ir rūpinsis iš anksto. Stovykloje visi buvo labai draugiški, stengėsi, kad veiklos tiktų ir aktyviems, ir ramybę mėgstantiems studentams. Dabar kuratoriai yra vieni geriausių mano draugų“, – džiaugiasi E. Kulionytė. 

Bendruomenė atsiranda veikiant kartu 

Kiekviena stovykla turi savitą temą, veiklas ir fakulteto tradicijas, tačiau svarbiausios tampa ne tik pačios užduotys, bet ir žmonės, su kuriais jos atliekamos. 

Komunikacijos fakulteto stovykloje KOMCHELLA pirmakursiai (-ės) dalyvavo dainų rungtyse, rengė muzikinius pasirodymus ir debatuose susitiko su dėstytojais (-omis). Pasak Jokūbo, ruošdamiesi (-osi) pasirodymams studentai (-ės) turėjo susitelkti ir dirbti kaip komanda. 

„Reikėjo daug komandinio darbo. Buvo smagu ne tik patiems ruoštis, bet ir pamatyti kuratorių bei koordinatorių pasirodymą. Tokios bendros patirtys labai įsimena“, – teigia jis. 

Medicinos fakulteto stovykloje „Iš tamsos į šviesą“ studentai (-ės) susipažino su skirtingomis studijų programomis, mokėsi siūti žaizdas, leisti vaistus ir traukti dantis. Urtė pasakojo, kad net apsigyvenimas viename namelyje su būsimomis bendrakursėmis padėjo pradėti kurti ryšį. 

„Gyvenau su akušerijos ir slaugos studentėmis. Jau tada pradėjome svajoti apie rugsėjį, tartis, kur eisime, ir kalbėti, kad būtinai susirašysime. Per tas kelias dienas žmonės, kurių prieš tai visai nepažinojai, tampa labai artimi“, – sako ji. 

Fizikos bei Chemijos ir geomokslų fakultetų stovyklos vyko Molėtų astronomijos observatorijoje. Eglei viena brangiausių akimirkų tapo vakaras, kai studentai (-ės) buvo pakviesti (-os) ant stovyklavietės stogo stebėti žvaigždžių pro teleskopą. Tačiau bendruomenės jausmas jai labiausiai atsiskleidė jau sugrįžus į fakultetą. 

„Mūsų fakultetas mažas, todėl tas artumas ir glaudumas yra išskirtinis. Po stovyklos atėjus į rugsėjo pirmosios renginius tave visi atpažįsta, net nesitiki, kad kuratorius atsimins tavo vardą, o jis pasisveikina pasakydamas tau – Labas, Egle!“, – juokiasi E. Kulionytė. 

Hubertui iš Chemijos ir geomokslų fakulteto stovyklos labiausiai įsiminė tautiniai šokiai, žaidimai ir kartu praleistas laikas. Vis dėlto svarbiausia patirtimi jis įvardijo ne vieną konkrečią veiklą, o ten prasidėjusią draugystę. 

„Labiausiai įsiminė bendruomenės jausmas, kuris išliko iki dabar. Visa stovykla buvo tarsi graži mūsų draugystės pradžios vizualizacija“, – sako H. Škudžinskas. 

Pasak jo, stovykla leido suprasti, kad universitetinė patirtis neapsiriboja vien paskaitomis ar atsiskaitymais. 

„Universitetas nėra tik apie mokslus, bet ir apie tai, kaip augi kaip žmogus. Stovykloje visi kartu augame, buriamės į grupes ir, nors studijuojame skirtingus dalykus – chemiją ar geomokslus – jaučiamės kaip vienas vienetas“, – teigia studentas. 

Stovykloje prasideda ne tik studijos, bet ir draugystės 

Paklausti, ar dar kartą vyktų į pirmakursių stovyklą, studentai (-ės) nedvejojo. Pasak jų, svarbiausia nespausti savęs iš karto pritapti ir prisiminti, kad panašiai jaučiasi daugelis atvykusiųjų. 

„Patarčiau pirmakursiams nepamiršti, kad ne tik tu vienas jaudiniesi – visi aplinkui irgi jaudinasi. Susirandi pažįstamų, draugų, kartu leidi vakarus prie laužo su gitara. Tikrai dar kartą vykčiau ir labai rekomenduoju“, – sako Urtė. 

Jokūbas taip pat ragino būsimiems (-oms) studentams (-ėms) mažiau galvoti apie tai, kaip juos (-as) priims kiti (-os). 

„Reikia būti tame momente, negalvoti, ar čia mane kažkas mėgs, ar nemėgs. Tiesiog mėgautis – ir viskas tikrai bus gerai“, – tikina jis. 

Pirmakursių stovykla – tai ne tik kelių dienų renginys prieš studijas. Tai vieta, kurioje pirmą kartą sutinki žmones, netrukus tapsiančius tavo kasdienybės dalimi. 

Kuratoriai (-ės) tampa tais (-omis), kuriems (-oms) drąsu užduoti net paprasčiausią klausimą, nepažįstami (-os) bendrakursiai (-ės) – žmonėmis, šalia kurių atsisėsi pirmojoje paskaitoje, o svetimas fakultetas – bendruomene, kurioje jau esi laukiamas. 

„Į stovyklą verta vykti dėl bendruomenės ir ryšių ateičiai“, – apibendrina Hubertas.

Starting university is exciting, but it can also bring plenty of uncertainty. Will I make friends? Who will I walk into the faculty with on the first day of classes? Who can I turn to when everything is still new and unfamiliar?

VU SR's Freshmen Camps help answer these questions even before studies begin. On START FM, students from the Faculties of Communication, Medicine, Physics, and Chemistry and Geosciences shared their experiences. Although each camp had its own theme and activities, one message united all four stories: it was there that they first truly felt like part of the university community.

Returning in September to Familiar Faces

Urtė Mažylytė, a Midwifery student at the Faculty of Medicine, attended the camp with one main goal in mind – to meet people so that starting university would feel less intimidating.

"I hoped I would get to know people so that September would feel less scary. It was wonderful to see familiar faces at the faculty, to have someone to sit next to, and to feel that I wasn't alone – we were all beginning this journey together," says U. Mažylytė.

Jokūbas Randis, who studies Innovative Communication and Entrepreneurship at the Faculty of Communication, remembers feeling uncomfortable when he first arrived at the faculty and even wondering whether he would manage to make friends. In the end, he decided to take the first step himself.

"I thought to myself that this was a once-in-a-lifetime moment, so I simply went up to people and started talking. From the very beginning there was so much energy – the mentors, the freshers, everyone was chatting, and we spent the entire train ride to the camp talking," says J. Randis.

Hubertas Škudžinskas, who studies Cartography and Geographic Information Systems at the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences, also remembers feeling nervous before meeting so many new people.

"I grew up in a small village and had the same group of friends for years, so it was exciting to meet completely new people with whom I'd soon spend a lot of time. At first I was a bit anxious, but we quickly became friends and started building a community together," he recalls.

Mentors Become Your First Familiar Faces at University

Even before the camp begins, freshers receive messages or phone calls from their mentors – senior students who guide them through their first steps at university. Although that first contact can be unexpected, mentors often become the very first people who make new students feel welcome.

Jokūbas admits that he initially wasn't sure how to react when his mentor texted him.

"I remember thinking: who's messaging me and why? It felt a little awkward because an older student had written to me, and I thought I had to behave very formally. But from the very first minute, my mentor spoke to me in such a warm and relaxed way that all the awkwardness disappeared. She made it clear that we're both students and there's nothing to worry about," he says.

That connection did not end with the camp. Today, Jokūbas is a mentor himself, while his former mentor is now the Integration Process Coordinator at VU SR's Faculty of Communication.

"We're still very close. I think it's because of how warmly she welcomed me from the very beginning. That first impression turned into a friendship that has lasted until now," says J. Randis.

Urtė's first contact with her mentor came not through a message but through a phone call. Although that initially seemed even more intimidating, the conversation quickly put her at ease.

"Right away I felt that I could write to her not only that first time, but whenever I had any question at all. Mentors have only recently gone through exactly the same experience themselves, so they have plenty of advice and stories to share. It's reassuring to know they've been in the same situation," says U. Mažylytė.

Eglė Kulionytė, who studies Light Technologies at the Faculty of Physics, was also surprised that incoming students were looked after even before the camp started.

"I didn't expect such a warm welcome or that people would care about us even before the camp. Everyone was incredibly friendly and made sure the activities suited both energetic students and those who preferred something more relaxed. Today, my mentors are among my closest friends," says E. Kulionytė.

Community Is Built by Experiencing Things Together

Every camp has its own theme, activities, and faculty traditions, but what leaves the strongest impression is not only the programme itself – it's the people you experience it with.

At the Faculty of Communication's KOMCHELLA camp, freshers took part in singing competitions, prepared musical performances, and even debated with lecturers. According to Jokūbas, preparing for these performances required genuine teamwork.

"We had to work together constantly. It was fun not only preparing our own performance but also watching the mentors and coordinators perform. Those shared experiences are the ones you remember the most," he says.

At the Faculty of Medicine's camp, From Darkness to Light, students explored different study programmes, learned how to suture wounds, administer injections, and even extract teeth. Urtė says that simply sharing a cabin with her future classmates helped build lasting connections.

"I stayed with Midwifery and Nursing students. Even then we were already dreaming about September, making plans about where we'd go together, and promising to stay in touch. In just a few days, people you had never met before become incredibly close to you," she says.

The camps organised by the Faculties of Physics and Chemistry and Geosciences took place at the Molėtai Astronomical Observatory. For Eglė, one of the most memorable moments was an evening spent on the observatory roof, watching the stars through a telescope. Yet the strongest sense of community came after returning to the faculty.

"Our faculty is quite small, so there's a real sense of closeness. After the camp, when you come back for the first events in September, everyone recognises you. You don't expect a mentor to remember your name, and then they greet you with, 'Hi, Eglė!'" she laughs.

For Hubertas, the highlights of the Chemistry and Geosciences camp were the traditional dances, games, and simply spending time together. But above all, what stayed with him was the friendships that began there.

"What I remember most is the sense of community that has stayed with us ever since. The whole camp felt like a beautiful visualisation of the beginning of our friendship," says H. Škudžinskas.

According to him, the camp showed that university life is about much more than lectures and exams.

"University isn't just about studying. It's also about growing as a person. At the camp, we grow together, form groups, and even though some of us study chemistry and others geosciences, we feel like one team," he says.

Camps Are Where Both Studies and Friendships Begin

When asked whether they would attend a Freshers' Camp again, none of the students hesitated. Their advice was simple: don't pressure yourself to fit in immediately, and remember that almost everyone feels nervous at first.

"I'd tell every fresher to remember that you're not the only one who's anxious – everyone around you feels the same. You make friends, spend evenings around the campfire with a guitar, and create memories together. I'd absolutely go again, and I genuinely recommend it," says Urtė.

Jokūbas also encourages future students to spend less time worrying about what others think.

"Just be present in the moment. Don't overthink whether people will like you or not. Simply enjoy the experience, and everything will work out," he says.

A Freshers' Camp is much more than a few days of activities before the academic year begins. It is where you first meet the people who will soon become part of your everyday life.

Mentors become the people you feel comfortable asking even the simplest questions, unfamiliar classmates become the people you sit beside in your very first lecture, and an unfamiliar faculty becomes a community where you already know you belong.

"It's worth going to the camp because of the community and the relationships you'll build for the future," Hubertas concludes.

Vilniaus universiteto Studentų atstovybė (VU SA) kartu su dar 35 švietimo, mokslo, verslo ir visuomeninėmis organizacijomis kreipėsi į Lietuvos Respublikos Prezidentą Gitaną Nausėdą, prašydama vetuoti Seimo priimtą Švietimo įstatymo pakeitimą, kuriuo atsisakoma pagrindinio ugdymo pasiekimų patikrinimo (PUPP) kartelės.

Liepos 14 d. Seimo priimtu pakeitimu panaikintas reikalavimas, kad pagrindinio ugdymo programą baigiantis (-i) mokinys (-ė) būtų pasiekęs (-usi) bent slenkstinį lietuvių kalbos ir literatūros bei matematikos pasiekimų lygį. Organizacijos „Švietimas #1“ inicijuotą kreipimąsi palaikančios organizacijos pabrėžia, kad kartelės panaikinimas mokymosi spragų neišsprendžia – mokinys (-ė) su jomis pereina į aukštesnę ugdymo pakopą.

VU SA prezidentė Uršulė Barkauskaitė teigia, kad švietimo sistemos tikslas turėtų būti ne mažinti reikalavimus, bet padėti kiekvienam (-ai) mokiniui (-ei) juos pasiekti.

„Matome tendenciją atsisakyti anksčiau nustatytų kartelių – tarsi geresnių mokinių pasiekimų būtų galima pasiekti ne stiprinant švietimo kokybę, o tiesiog mažinant reikalavimus. Tačiau taip mokymosi sunkumai neišsprendžiami. Jeigu mokinys nepasiekia net slenkstinio lygio, turime kuo anksčiau pastebėti problemą ir užtikrinti jam reikalingą pagalbą“, – sako U. Barkauskaitė.

Siūlo stiprinti ankstyvąją pagalbą

Kreipimesi pabrėžiama, kad priimtas pakeitimas mokiniams (-ėms) neužtikrina nei papildomų konsultacijų, nei individualaus mokymosi spragų mažinimo plano, nei tęstinės pagalbos. Panaikinamas tik reikalavimas pasiekti slenkstinį lygį, tačiau pačios mokymosi spragos niekur nedingsta.

Todėl kreipimesi siūloma sukurti sistemą, kuri padėtų kuo anksčiau pastebėti mokymosi sunkumų turinčius (-čias) mokinius (-es) ir laiku suteikti jiems (-oms) reikalingą, individualiai pritaikytą pagalbą.

Pasak VU SA prezidentės, šis klausimas tiesiogiai susijęs ir su aukštojo mokslo kokybe.

„Studijų kokybė ir prieinamumas neprasideda studentui įžengus pro Universiteto duris. Tai prasideda daug anksčiau – nuo pasirengimo ir pagalbos, kurią mokinys gauna mokykloje. Laiku nepašalintos spragos persikelia į 11–12 klases, o vėliau gali būti atsinešamos ir į aukštąją mokyklą. Todėl VU SA svarbu, kad būtų sprendžiamos problemų priežastys, o mokiniai sulauktų realios pagalbos“, – teigia U. Barkauskaitė.

Reikia tvarių ir nuoseklių sprendimų

Sprendimas susieti pagrindinio išsilavinimo įgijimą su bent slenkstiniu PUPP pasiekimų lygiu buvo priimtas 2022 m. gruodžio 22 d. Nors švietimo bendruomenė jo įsigaliojimui ruošėsi beveik ketverius metus, reikalavimo atsisakyta dar nepradėjus jo visapusiškai taikyti ir neįvertinus praktinių rezultatų.

Tą pačią savaitę Seimas taip pat panaikino reikalavimą išlaikyti tris valstybinius brandos egzaminus norint įgyti vidurinį išsilavinimą.

„Švietimo politika negali tapti žaidimų aikštele, kurioje taisyklės keičiamos dar nespėjus įvertinti ankstesnių sprendimų poveikio. Reformoms ruošiasi visa švietimo bendruomenė, todėl jai reikia tvarių, duomenimis pagrįstų ir ilgalaikę kryptį turinčių sprendimų“, – sako U. Barkauskaitė.

Kreipimąsi pasirašiusios organizacijos prašo Prezidento vetuoti priimtą Švietimo įstatymo pakeitimą ir grąžinti jį Seimui svarstyti iš naujo.

The Vilnius University Students' Representation (VU SR), together with 35 other organisations representing the fields of education, science, business, and civil society, has appealed to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, urging him to veto the amendments to the Law on Education adopted by the Seimas, which abolish the achievement threshold for the Basic Education Achievement Assessment (PUPP).

Under the amendments adopted by the Seimas on 14 July, students completing the basic education programme will no longer be required to achieve at least the minimum threshold in Lithuanian Language and Literature and Mathematics. The organisations supporting the appeal, initiated by Education #1 (Švietimas #1), stress that removing the threshold does not eliminate learning gaps—it simply allows students to progress to the next stage of education while those gaps remain unresolved.

According to VU SA President Uršulė Barkauskaitė, the goal of the education system should not be to lower standards but to ensure that every student receives the support needed to meet them.

"We are seeing a growing tendency to abandon previously established standards—as if better student outcomes could be achieved not by improving the quality of education, but simply by lowering expectations. However, this does not solve learning difficulties. If a student fails to reach even the minimum achievement level, we must identify the problem as early as possible and ensure they receive the support they need," says Barkauskaitė.

Strengthening Early Support

The appeal emphasises that the adopted amendments do not guarantee additional consultations, individual learning support plans, or continuous assistance for students. The only change is the removal of the minimum achievement requirement, while the underlying learning gaps remain unaddressed.

For this reason, the appeal proposes establishing a system that would help identify students experiencing learning difficulties at the earliest possible stage and provide them with timely, individualised support.

According to the VU SA President, this issue is also directly linked to the quality of higher education.

"The quality and accessibility of higher education do not begin when a student walks through the doors of a university. They begin much earlier—with the preparation and support students receive at school. Learning gaps that are not addressed in time continue into grades 11 and 12 and may eventually carry over into higher education. That is why VU SA believes it is essential to address the root causes of these problems and ensure that students receive meaningful support," says Barkauskaitė.

Sustainable and Consistent Solutions Are Needed

The decision to link the award of a basic education certificate to achieving at least the minimum PUPP threshold was adopted on 22 December 2022. Although the education community had spent nearly four years preparing for its implementation, the requirement was withdrawn before it had been fully introduced or its practical impact assessed.

During the same week, the Seimas also abolished the requirement to pass three state maturity examinations to obtain a secondary education certificate.

"Education policy cannot become a playground where the rules are changed before the effects of previous decisions have even been evaluated. The entire education community prepares for these reforms, which is why it needs sustainable, evidence-based decisions with a clear long-term direction," says Barkauskaitė.

The organisations that signed the appeal call on the President to veto the adopted amendments to the Law on Education and return them to the Seimas for reconsideration.
